Abstract: The book is designed to contribute to the practice of legal professionals and policymakers working on the evolving issues surrounding parenthood. The publication combines theoretical analysis with practical insights from six EU Member States (Spain, Belgium, Italy, Bulgaria, Croatia and Poland), with a comprehensive examination of the critical challenges of (EU) private international law in parenthood matters. 

The final Conclusions and Recommendations (also available here) aim at rationalizing the main issues on which further reflection and possible intervention by the lawmaker should be considered. This, also in light of the practical problems addressing current practice by professionals in the EU Member States. The Conclusions and Recommendations are rationalized in six Sections addressing respectively issues of jurisdiction, applicable law, adoption, recognition of decisions and of birth certificates, cooperation and with a final part on the possible advantages of adopting common rules.
